Free State Stars got their pre-season fixtures off to a bright start with a 3-0 victory over Sandawana FC at the Ea Lla Koto Development Grounds on Wednesday afternoon.
In preparation for next weeks Bokone Bophirima Maize tournament in Orkney, Ea Lla Koto went up against the Kingdom of Lesotho Premier Division side and got off to the perfect start thanks to some clever movement from striker Muhammed Anas.
With just two minutes played, the Ghanaian forward was brought down in the area and star forward Danny Venter stepped up to convert the subsequent spot-kick with aplomb.
Eight minutes later Anas grabbed one of his own after meeting a perfectly weighted through ball lofted over the opposition defence by veteran defender Rooi Mahamutsa – and slotting home with precision.
Sandawana fought back valiantly after the early rollicking and nearly grabbed a goal late into the half as captain Masiu Tau rattled the woodwork, with Stars goalkeeper Lindokuhle Nkambule well beaten.
However, in the second-half, the home side gained ascendancy once again and an inspired substitution made secure of the victory.
Thabo Maphakisa immediately made his presence felt after running onto the pitch when he netted the third and final goal, profiting from a goalkeeping error by the visitors keeper.
