Road to final

Ea Lla Koto kicked off the tournament at the James Motlatsi Stadium against a youthful Platinum Stars side that was exposed on numerous occasions for their lack of experience.

Despite boasting the energy and talent of the young future stars in the form of teenagers Gift Links and Charles Baloyi; Dikwena failed to really bother Sammy Troughton’s side’s defence for most of the encounter.

The only goal of the game was provided by star winger Sinethemba Jantjie, as his long-range effort was poorly dealt with by goalkeeper Nhlakanipho Duma in the tenth minute.

In the second game of the day, Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs eased past Botswana top-flight side Township rollers after goals in each half from striker Gustavo Paez.

His first came from a simple tap-in as he latched onto a Bernard Parker pass and the second from the spot – as veteran defender Tsepho Masilela was fouled just inside the area.

Amakhosi edge victory in the final

Chiefs coach Steve Komphela fielded XI changes to the side who beat Township Rollers, with the aim of freshening up his players against the home side.

Buoyed by the home support Ea Lla Koto started the brighter of the two side’s but no real goal scoring chances were created from either side.

In a rather disjointed affair from players who were lacking match fitness, the second-half provided the fans who came out in their numbers with a bit more quality.

But it took a late George Lebese strike to separate the two side’s with a late goal.
