Abel Mabaso’s goal was the difference as Chippa United ran out narrow 1-0 winners at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
After a competitive but goalless first half, Mabaso struck two minutes after the break.
The result leaves Ea Lla Koto in fourth place on the Premiership standings with 37 points and the Chilli Boys up from 11th to eighth with 30 points.
After a cagey start, it was Thabo Rakhale with the first chance of the tie with an effort he steered off target.
New signing Thabang Klaas then smashed a good low left-footed drive just wide of Chippa goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi’s left upright.
Stars were enjoying possession in front of a determined Chippa, as Badra Ali Sangaré saved comfortably from Linda Mntambo from outside the box.
But it was a Mntambo pass from outside the box that led to the goal, as he fed Mabaso for a cool finish for what proved to be the only goal of the game.
Paulus Masehe was unlucky not to keep his 53rd minute chance down, as second-half substitute Siphelele Mthembu, on for Klaas, broke through, only to be pulled back for offsides.
Maxime Cosse was introduced for Makhehlene Makhaula ahead of a chance for Mohammed Anas, who looked to test Akpeyi from a set-piece with 70 minutes.
Goodman Dlamini was the final change, as he replaced Jantjie for the final ten minutes that saw Chippa hold on for all three points.
