Free State Stars will look to build on their recent form with victory against Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, kick-off 20:15.
Alongside losses to Bidvest Wits and AmaZulu, Ea Lla Koto defeated Maritzburg United while drawing 2-2 with Cape Town City in the last round of Premiership fixtures.
The last time Luc Eymael’s side was in action though, was in a 2-1 victory over the Nedbank Ke Yona Team in the 2018 Nedbank Ke Yona Challenge during the international break.
While Stars come into this game in 14th place on the league standings with four points, Polokwane City are in 12, also on four.
Jozef Vukusic’s side started their season with two defeats, before seeing off Baroka 2-0 and drawing 1-1 with Golden Arrows.
The victory over Baroka remains Polokwane’s only win of the season so far, and Vukusic explained the importance of the win.
He told reporters: “It was a very important win for us because we have to start somewhere, we needed to get a good result in the derby. I am happy that the defence kept a clean sheet.
“Now we have the first three points we can move from here. This will build confidence for our next games.”
Eymael, meanwhile, feels his side’s slow start will not hinder their ambitions this season, having ended last season strongly after similar circumstances.
He said: “Last season we started with four points from [a possible] 15 but you saw where we ended.”
He added that Stars are playing well and results will soon follow: “If you say we started the season badly in the matter of points, I agree with you, but not in the matter of the way of playing.”
Last season, Stars edged City 3-2 away from home before drawing 0-0 at Goble Park.
