Eleazar Rodgers came to the rescue for Free State Stars for a second straight game as he popped up with crucial headed goal late on to help secure a 1-1 draw against Polokwane City at Goble Park on Wednesday night.
Having scored in the 88th minute of last Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Black Leopards, Rodgers again underlined his experience and knack for scoring important goals as he headed in off the left-hand post to restore parity.
The first half saw Stars control proceedings for large passages of play, creating plenty of goal-scoring opportunities. However, Stars failed to make their chances count and the first half ended as it had started, 0-0.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 62nd minute but it was the visitors that claimed the all-important opening goal, with former Stars striker Mohammed Anas getting his name on the scoresheet.
However, credit must go to the Stars XI as they didn’t let their heads drop, and their determined approach finally paid off in the 83rd minute when Rodgers met a deep cross with a towering header that went in off the left-hand post.
Ea Lla Koto will now turn their attentions towards the Premiership clash with SuperSport United at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Sunday afternoon, kick-off 15:30.
