Free State Stars coach Nikola Kavazovic insists he is not thinking about relegation after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to SuperSport, and says his team “will keep fighting until the end”.
Ea Lla Koto went into Sunday’s encounter aiming to extend their unbeaten run in the league to four games, and they appeared to be on course to do just that.
However, with the scores locked at 0-0 and time running out, Mxolisi Macuphu popped up in the 89th minute to net the match-winning goal.
As such, Stars are now just one point clear of the dreaded drop zone ahead of the visit of AmaZulu to Goble Park on Saturday afternoon.
Looking back at Sunday’s performance and result, Kavazovic said: “We stuck to our game plan and we were able to contain them until the 89th min and 15 seconds before they could score.
“The team was rock solid at the back and we created a number of scoring chances. We dealt with the crosses and set pieces very well.
“I am not thinking about relegation in my head, and if I say I can’t help this team to survive relegation, I might as well go straight to the airport and go home.
“The plans for the pre-season and next season are already in place, which players will be leaving and those that will be joining the team.
“This team doesn’t belong in the NFD, with due respect to the NFD league. We will keep fighting until the end.”
