Free State Stars will be aiming to start 2019 on the front foot when league leaders Bidvest Wits make the trip to Goble Park on Saturday evening, kick-off 18:00.
Ea Lla Koto have a new head coach at the helm, with Serbian Nikola Kavazovic unveiled by the Bethlehem-based club on 20 December, following the departure of Belgian mentor Luc Eymael.
And looking ahead to the task that lays ahead in the second half of the Premiership campaign, Kavazovic revealed his mandate to avoid relegation this season.
“This season our main aim is to keep PSL status,” said Kavazovic, as quoted by KickOff.
“But we will not miss the chance to grab everything more than that if [we] get that chance. Basically most important is that we don’t depend on others.”
The former Township Rollers coach’s first game in charge will undoubtedly be a stern test, with Wits flying high at the top of the table after a run of three wins and one draw in their last four Premiership fixtures.
Thankfully, Kavazovic has an almost full squad to choose from, with the suspended Nyiko Mobbie the only confirmed absentee.
Wits, meanwhile, hold a three-point lead over second-placed Orlando Pirates ahead of the weekend’s round of Premiership fixtures, and will be targeting a repeat of the performance that saw them clinch a 3-0 win over Stars in their first game of the 2018/19 season.
