Free State Stars continued their impressive winning form ahead of the resumption of the Premiership with a 5-1 thumping of the Lesotho national team at the club’s academy ground on Tuesday afternoon.
Tebogo Potsane and new-signing Allen-Dorian Nono both grabbed two goals apiece, before Nyiko Mobbie rounded off the scoring from the penalty spot.
Likuena did manage to grab a late goal but it was nothing more than a consolation for the visitors.
Letsoaka combinations shows early promise
Manager Serame Letsoaka has been hard at work finding new combinations and experimenting with different tactical plans ahead of the second-half of the season.
The former Golden Arrows boss will no doubt be pleased by the way his team performed against the Southern African side.
Midfielder Potsane toe poked the opener as early as the 13th minute after a goal-mouth scramble, to settle the nerves, but Lesotho fought back admirably – nearly finding an equaliser after Ditshipi Marabe’s free-kick sailed inches over the cross bar.
Stars composed themselves after the near scare by creating a two-goal cushion through Nono, as the Gabonese forward’s diving header from Mbuyiselo Thethane’s cross gave Letsoaka’s men some breathing space.
In the second-half young goalkeeper Tsatsi Theletsane proved his worth with an brilliant reflex save to deny Koete Mohloai from reducing the deficit – which proved valuable when Potsane was fouled inside the area moments later.
Nyiko Mobbie found the back of the net with the subsequent spot-kick to make it 3-0 before Nono provided a spectacular fourth to complete his brace.
The club’s latest acquisition took it upon himself to go on an incredible solo run before rounding the Lesotho keeper and tapping the ball into an empty net, ahead of a second from Potsane.
Seephephe Matete’s side did manage to find a consolation through Motebeng Sera as they finally managed to beat the impressive Theletsane in the Ea Lla Koto goal.
