Free State Stars travel to FNB Stadium on Saturday evening to take on Kaizer Chiefs in an eagerly-awaited MTN8 quarter-final clash.
The match will kick off at 6pm in Johannesburg and Chiefs go into the match after a frustrating 3-1 defeat to Bidvest Wits in the Premiership and are winless after two games having played out a 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in their opener.
Stars on the other hand will draw inspiration from the last cup competitive match between the two teams, having beaten the Glamour Boys 2-0 on their way to lifting the Nedbank Cup during the 2017/18 season.
Ea Lla Koto bounced back from a 3-0 defeat to Wits by clinching a 2-1 victory over Maritzburg United and will look to take that form into the weekend’s game.
Both clubs have reinforced their squad for the 2018/19 season with Khama Billiat headlining the new faces at Naturena.
Luc Eymael beefed up his squad with the likes Eleazar Rogers, Judas Moseamedi and William Twala among the new faces.
Amakhosi mentor Giovanni Solinas admitted that it will be a special occasion for him coming up against his former club on Saturday.
Solinas had two spells in charge of Ea Lla Koto before making a return to South Africa to take over at Chiefs.
“For me it’s a special game because Stars is my old team and it will bring a lot of emotions,” said Solinas.
“It’s a tough game because they are a good team and beat Chiefs in the last cup competition. They won the Nedbank Cup last season and I expect a tough game.”
