Free State Stars were held to a 1-1 draw with Sibanye FC in the ABC Motsepe League on Wednesday.
Playing at the Bronville Stadium, it was evergreen striker Siyanda Masango, who opened the scoring for Ea Lla Koto on 11th minutes, following a well worked move which started from the back.
Stars were the visitors in Welkom but looked the more organised and better team in the first half, with the likes of Masango and Khetha Tshabalala both missing clear-cut chances.
Again at the start of the second stanza, Masango went on a solo run that troubled the Sibanye defense, but his shot was just narrowly wide of the target.
Halfway through the second stanza, the hosts nearly found an equaliser when a pinpoint cross was floated into the Stars penalty area, but Teboho Magau’s header missed the upright by inches.
Sibanye were finally rewarded with an equaliser in the 79th minute though when the Stars dropped the ball at the feet of the unmarked Magau, who easily tapped in.
Ea Lla Koto almost stole it at the death but the referee ruled Masango to be in an offside position when he put the ball in the net.
