Free State Stars were held to a goalless draw with Super Eagles in the ABC Motsepe league at Bohlokong Stadium on Saturday.
The opening five minutes of the game certainly belonged to Ea Lla Koto but they were unable to convert two early back-to-back opportunities.
Halfway through the first stanza it was still Stars who dictated terms, while in the 27th minute Stars striker Tshepo Morake received his second yellow card and was sent back to the changing room for an early shower
Despite Eagles’ numerical advantage it was again Stars who looked the better side going forward.
Eagles’ first real scoring chance came in the 41st minutes with a header from Thabiso Mofokeng that narrowly missed the target.
Eagles finished the first stanza the strongest of the two teams and started the second half off like house on fire. They were nearly in for an opening goal when Nhlanhla Khambule beat an offside trap, but the Stars keeper did well to narrow the angle and save the shot.
In the last 10 minutes of the match, Stars were reduced to nine men when midfielder Athenkosi Bauti received his second yellow card as well.
Ea Lla Koto had to defend for their lives as the score ended 0-0.
