Free State Stars succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Maritzburg United at The Harry Gwala Stadium in their Premiership clash on Sunday.
Ea Lla Koto took the lead in the 20th minute after Moeketsi Sekola’s shot was blocked but it fell at the feet of Mohammed Anas – and the former Maritzburg United man managed to control the ball well under pressure and beat goalkeeper Virgil Vries.
Serame Letsoaka’s men almost doubled their lead five minutes before the break when Danny Venter sent in a whipped corner from the right that was met by a defender Tamsanqa Teyise header, but the defender’s effort went narrowly over the bar.
After the break, The Team of Choice leveled matters in the 65th minute through Evans Rusike as he met the cross of South Africa youth international Deolin Mekoa at the near post for a delightful finish.
Roger De Sa’s men completed the turn-around ten minutes from time, recording their first win under his tutelage when substitute Devon Saal did well to keep the ball alive after Rusike’s shot was parried by Mafoumbi.
Lebohang Maboe was on hand to slot the second rebound into the back of the net, ten minutes from time.
