New Free State Stars striker Mohammed Anas says he is excited to be playing football in the South African top-flight again while also looking forward to face his former side, Maritzburg United.
Ea Lla Koto come up against Roger de Sa’s side on Saturday with a real opportunity of breaking into the top-half of the table, after manager Serame Letsoaka led the side to a 1-0 win over Golden Arrows on Saturday.
Anas enjoyed just under an hour against Clinton Larsen’s men but has now targeted improvement, as he hopes to repay the faith the Bethlehem based side placed in him – with goals.
“First of all I am happy to be back in the PSL and I would like to thank the club for awarding me with an opportunity to play again in the PSL after one season in Swaziland playing for Mbabane Swallows,” he said.
“As far as my performance is concerned, I think I have not reached my level best but I am getting there. I am happy that the coaches are showing faith in me in starting the matches and I will want to repay them by doing well and scoring goals.
“Playing against Maritzburg on the weekend will not be easy, they are not an easy side to beat at Harry Gwala and having suffered a heavy defeat against Supersport United midweek they will definitely come out guns blazing,” the Ghanaian added.
Having scored nine goals during his time at Maritzburg, the 22-year-old says he is keen to open his account for the season at his former employers – in order to send a message to the rest of the league.
“It will be good to go back to Maritzburg after spending three seasons there and to see old faces, but I really don’t have any point to prove.
“I will just play my normal game. It will also be good to be on the score sheet to open my account and to signal that I am back in the PSL.”
