All square after round one

Ea Lla Koto and Mukura Victory Sports played to a 0-0 draw in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round first leg at the Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday.

Free State Stars started brightly while the visiting team attacked through Gael Dhayindavyi, who saw his shot from range comfortably saved by Badra Ali Sangare.

Twizerimana Onesme was then only able to hit the side netting after a good break forward from the Rwandan side.

Stars came close to taking the lead towards the end of the first half but Iddy Saidi was able to clear off his goalline after Rwabugiri’s mis-cued punch hit a defender and headed towards goal.

It was the home side that dominated much of the second-half ball but Yusuf Jappie was wide with a chance as Sinethemba Jantjie fired just off target.

Sthembiso Dlamini replaced Relebogile Mokhuoane on the hour-mark and his pass to Harris Tchilimbou was so nearly the difference but the close-range effort was well blocked.

While Jantjie continued to create problems, Seloatse Mosala introduced Sibusiso Hlubi and Judas Moseamedi for Jappie and Eleazar Rodgers.

Stars continued to probe but ultimately had to settle for a goalless draw ahead of next week’s second leg in Rwanda.
